I was travelling through the southern states last June/July with my parents. We were only spending one full day in Atlanta, and my parents were fairly disgruntled when they learned that I intended to spend my (ahem, our) limited time shooting. How could I not though? As soon as I realized what a creative hub that concrete city was, there was no way that I was going to miss such an amazing opportunity.
Planning the shoot was one of the most stressful things that I have experienced in my career. I had never had to co-ordinate and organize so many things at once! I had never worked with a MUA or a clothing designer— and I had only even worked with a real model twice before! Not to mention that I was in a foreign country and using my phone was very, very expense. I was lucky in that my team consisted of incredible, talented, and dedicated people.
We congregated in Piedmont Park in the late afternoon. I miss summer and the long hours of daylight so much, especially now that it is winter.
This was so much more than just a photoshoot for me. It was me taking a chance and believing that I was ready to take the next step with my photography. I was surrounded by beautiful creatives whose talents helped to transform the shoot into something more than I can have ever imagined. And one of the most unbelievable parts of it? They wanted to work with ME! They supported my work without ever having met me and were willing to contribute their time and talents out of faith in my ability to create beautiful pictures. I never could have imagined (I still can't) that other individuals would consider my art worthy of collaboration.
For the first time in my life, I believed that I could do this. I could be a photographer. I could be a fashion photographer. I believed this could be my life.
