inside her head

I did this shoot just a few hours before I left Victoria for home. It was a quick session, only about thirty minutes long, but I am really happy with what Ella and I created. Ella is such a great girl and I really enjoyed working with her. This is my first entirely black and white series... and I definitely want to do it again. Ella's hair has such an amazing range of tones so it translates into black and white really well.

We shot by the water in Esquimalt—a place where I have never really been despite living in Victoria for almost two years. There were so many heritage houses in that area and I couldn't help but daydream about how incredible it would be to shoot in one of those homes. That being said, the path along the ocean where we shot was equally beautiful. It really made me realize that I never spent much time exploring Victoria, despite being completely in love with the city. There are inspiring locations everywhere just waiting to be discovered. This is my reminder to keep my eyes open and find them, no matter where I am.

worried talk

I have been fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful and talented people this year, and Falling Rain is no exception. I found her work on Model Mayhem quite some time ago and was instantly huge fan. Right after I left Victoria, she messaged me saying that was interested in working together. Since I had just left, we exchanged emails with the promise of future shoots.

At the end of July, six whole months after moving back to the mainland, I finally visited the island. It was a really great trip; I was able to visit my old roommate, spend dinner with my old coworkers from Call it Spring, and shoot! Unfortunately, I was unable to find any MUAs or Wardrobe Stylists who were available on the same days me, but FR and I made the best of it and still had a fantastic shoot. We worked together on creating the makeup and styling the looks. Most of the clothes you see in this series belong to me!

Falling Rain and I really hit it off, which makes collaborating that much better! I think we chatted for almost an hour upon meeting before starting the actual shoot. She was housesitting this absolutely stunning home, presenting me with my first opportunity to photograph indoors. I have always wanted to do a shoot inside of a gorgeous house; the beauty of the environment tells such a story and adds so much to the images. Some of my favourite shoots by other photographs are set in mansions (speaking of mansions… wait until you see my last shoot!)

I cannot wait for my next visit to Victoria so we can work together on a larger scale shoot. I really love these images and I am very excited about what we will create next time.
